Happy Birthday Carys and Matthew!

Today was Matthew and Carys' 4th birthday! Of course Lily was beyond excited to celebrate the birthday of two of her best friends. I didn't get many photos today, but it was a super fun party at the local gymnastic place and Lily had a blast!

The Rest of the Snow

Of course we had to go back out to play in the snow again on Friday night. There was so much snow to play with, but it was so cold out we had to go out a little while at a time.

But in between snow time (and for most of the previous week) this is how Lily and Chip entertained themselves:

Mario Kart!

It was so pretty once the sun came out, but still chilly!

She was so excited to find tiny icicles on her "park".

She wanted to go out front and take a walk . . .

She liked stomping in the slush.

It was a beautiful sunset.

...........

Today (Saturday) the sun stayed out and the temperature rose drastically. It was bittersweet. I was glad it melted some, because we had a very important birthday party to attend, but I am always sad to see the snow melt.

The pond on the corner, still frozen and covered in snow.

After Matthew and Carys' birthday party, we had to make a snowman before all the snow melted. Yesterday it was too dry and not sticky enough for snowmen, but today it was perfect.

Lily added the belly button and hat.

For some reason throwing snowballs at the BBQ was very entertaining. . . . better the BBQ than me!

The funniest part to me was our poor driveway -- all the neighbors have nicely shoveled, clear driveways and ours looks like this. It was too big a pain to shovel, so Chip added potting soil to the snow and ice to add traction so we wouldn't slip while driving out. It worked, too! The only problem is that it is not melting with the snow and now we have a dirt covered, muddy drive! :)

More Snow (and Cold!)

After being cooped up for three days due to the ice, we woke up this morning to six plus inches of snow!! It was a welcome sight to be able to go outside and play -- although you still had to be careful since the slippery ice was hiding underneath all the snow. (and I suppose as fun as the snow is -- another 75 degree weekend like last weekend would have been more welcomed!) :)

Here you can see the sheet of ice underneath the snow where the melt off from the warm roof lands.
We got a LOT of snow -- way more than predicted.

You can't even tell where the flower beds, steps or the curbs to the street are!

There is a street, curbs and sidewalks in this photo . . . somewhere.

In the midst of freezing temperatures outside (and on day 4 of being cooped up inside), crazy Lily took of all her clothes and made a "swimming pool" out of the blanket and swam around for awhile.

Nearly 5 inches, although I think we actually got more.

Even covered in snow, her "park" was still fun!

The snow covered slide was especially fun!

I liked how the little stools looked liked mushrooms in the snow.

The ice under the snow on the driveway.

Our crazy neighbors shoveled their sidewalk -- the only ones on the whole street. What is the point of that? They ruined the view!

People at the other end of the street were getting inter tubes and inflatable boats out to go play in!

She LOVES to eat the snow.

Snowball fight with daddy!

Chip was checking out the driveway to see how hard it would be to shovel it . . .

. . . it would be hard. That is a lot of snow, and then solid ice.

Lily wanted to help and was determined to get it shoveled since she has important parties to attend this weekend that she does not want to miss!

Since the snow actually added some traction to the driveway, Chip decided to try and get the car out to run to the store (poor guy ran out of diet coke!!). He got out fine, but couldn't get back in!! The traction was gone and the hill too steep, he just spun out and couldn't get up the driveway. He tried putting potting soil down to add some traction and that probably would have worked, but I talked him into leaving the car out in case we wanted to leave the house again in the next few days. I am sure now that that extra traction had been ran over exposing the ice, we wouldn't be able to get out again and the temps aren't supposed to get too much warmer for awhile.
