Puerto Rico is home to the only tropical rain forest in the US -- the El Yunque National Park. I was excited to take the girls to see a real rain forest! Our first stop was the visitor's center.
There was a lot of bamboo.
The forest has a lot of hiking trails, but the shortest was .7 miles one way and we didn't want to have to carry the girls back. So we opted on sticking near the main road. Thankfully, one major attraction, La Coco Falls was accessible from the road.Back on the road. We drove all the way up the mountain, through nearly the whole forest.
Lily really wanted to climb the tower, since it reminded her of "Tangled". :) So we did! We should have made her watch Tarzan before we left, then maybe she'd want to hike too.
Views from the top -- you could see all the way to the ocean.
Rain Forest from above
On our way out of the rain forest we stopped at this road side restaurant to get the girls a coconut to taste.
Dani LOVED the coconut milk. Lily, not so much.
Look at that clear water.
Watching the pelican dive bomb the ocean for food. It was fascinating watching him search for fish and dive and get them!
I LOVED the ocean and beach so much more than the pool. It was so peaceful and relaxing. We had the whole place to ourselves; I had a lounge chair in the water; the girls had a blast finding shells and playing with the sand. It was perfection!
These two had fun making themselves "Sand Monsters".
Heaven
After the beach we went back to the room for some much needed baths and finally caught a good sunset on the way to dinner.
I got another Mofongo for dinner!
Walking back to the room.
The Bali Beds at night. So wonderful.
