Midnight Hospital Visit

I had purposely scheduled Lily's 4 year doctor appointment until after her birthday party in case she had some side effects from all the shots. But when her party got postponed, I didn't bother to change her doctor appointment too. Big mistake. Friday afternoon, Lily developed a low grade fever and cough -- both common side effects, especially with the flumist. So I treated the symptoms and didn't think much of it. But her coughing was so bad at night that she was keeping Chip and I awake, so I let her sleep with me on Friday and again on Saturday when Chip slept in the guest room. I am SO glad that I did. Saturday night around 1:30, I rolled over to check on her fever (as I had been doing for the past 2 days) and she was burning up. So I grabbed the thermometer and got a reading of 106.7!!!! I couldn't believe it, so I did it again and got 107.4!!!! She already had children's advil in her system, so I immediately got her tylenol and a wet cloth to try to cool her down. I woke up Chip and we called Children's Medical Center who said we should probably bring her in. So on the night before her big birthday party, we headed to the ER at 1:45am. She had cooled down to around 103ish by the time we got there, but that is still pretty high. They gave her more Motrin, juice and ran a strep test, flu test and a chest x-ray. Thankfully, everything came back negative and they got her fever back down. I still don't know exactly what caused it to spike so high, but I think it was just a bad reaction to all the vaccines and flumist. We finally got home around 4:30am and slept in until 10:30 (thankfully!!). I had a tough decision to make regarding her party, but since the fever was attributed to the shots, and not an illness and she was in such good spirits the whole time -- I mean even when her fever was above 106 she wasn't lethargic or sickly at all!! I decided to go ahead with the festivities. Her cough had gotten a lot better and her fever had subsided and since we all managed to get some sleep, we decided to go ahead with the day as planned. But what a crazy night! I do have to say that the Children's Medical Center Hospital is very nice, efficent and helpful. I am glad to have it so close by. My only complaint is that the Slush Puppy machine in the guest's refreshment room was broken. :(

My little boo boos in her hospital bed.

More Presents

The birthday presents just keep coming! This week she got a big singing Ariel doll from Paula and Frank, which of course she loves!
And a vanity craft set from her friends Travis and Allison that are not able to come to her party. The vanity is really cute and it came with stickers, glitter glue and rhinestones to decorated it.

4 Year Check Up

Thursday afternoon Lily had her 4 year check up. She is currently 40 pounds and 42 inches which puts her in the 82% for weight and the 79% for height. Everything looks great and she is on track for a healthy four year old girl. But then came the vaccines. At the four year appointment they get 5 shots!! (but it is the last round until they are 11!). To add to the fun, I had Lily finally get her flumist, since she has been congested all fall and I kept putting it off. I was a little nervous for all the shots after hearing the horror stories about her friend's time at the doctors, but Lily was a champ! No tears, no crying and no squirming at all! She laid there like such a good girl and got all her shots. I was SO proud of her. Afterwards we went out for frozen yogurt.

Yummy

Actually, Lily got a little yogurt with her candy! :)

The Rest of the Snow & Ice

Tuesday and Wednesday it was COLD outside, like in the 20's cold. So we just admired the snow that was sticking around from the comfort of the warm house. But on Thursday, I felt a little guilty about not taking advantage of the snow before it finally melted off, so Lily and I got all bundled up and went out to play.

Our Daddy snowman was still in pretty good shape 4 days later.

Snowball fight!

Checking out the big hunks of ice that were still on the patio.

She was supposed to be posing with this chunk that was shaped like an "L", but I caught her trying to lick it instead. Gross. It has been stuck to the hose for 5 days.

"L" for Lily
Again! She is obsessed with eating snow and ice.

Since it was starting to slowly melt off, we were getting some nice icicles on the house.

Of course, Lily wanted one.

Check out that big one!

Then we spent the rest of the time outside having icicle sword fights! It was the perfect way to enjoy the snow and ice before it finally melted away.

Snow Day -- part 3

Lily didn't have school today and Chip didn't have work, so it was the perfect snow day! Lily was anxious to get back out, but I was dreading the cold -- so I stepped up my gear, double my socks pants and tops; added a scarf and a warmer hat and was ready to go! I may look ridiculous, but it totally worked! I was actually getting a little sweaty by the time we were ready to come back inside.

We had to stay off the cement areas since they were all still icy. So we decided to make snowmen today (or should I say, I made snowmen).

Since Chip was too cold and cozy to come outside, we made a daddy snowman -- complete with a goatee.

Then we decided to go out front and make another snowman for the neighborhood to enjoy, but while I worked hard on my snowman, Lily was busy playing "pizza guy". She just kept ringing the doorbell, making Chip get up and delivering him pretend pizzas! :)

Silly Lily

Notice Lily in the background to deliver yet another pizza!

Back inside, she kept her snow clothes on to play. It is actually a little cool downstairs today. It appears the downstairs heater is either broken or can't keep up with the chilly temps -- either way, we have a call in and hopefully someone can get out today to fix it. We had this exact same problem 2 winters ago and got it fixed. Since we still have the home warranty, I am just hoping for a whole new unit! (but I doubt that will happen)

Snow -- Part 2

Last night after the snow finally stopped falling, Lily and I went back out to play. But it was almost too cold to really play too long. We definitely need better snow clothes! (at least I do)

Standing by the sand box to demonstrate how thick the snowfall was.

Eating more snow.

She was sad that it wasn't snowing anymore, so she was throwing snow in the air to make it snow.

Climbing on the sandbox -- not entirely sure why.
