Lily and Chip had Spring Break this week. Now that Lily is in school all day, every day we really learned to appreciate Spring Break and the extra time with her. Since we had no vacation plans, we decided to take advantage of the two days Chip had off and have a mini staycation. So on Monday we headed to the Fort Worth Zoo. But our first stop was Cracker Barrel for breakfast!
It was Dani's first time at Cracker Barrel (i think) and I'm pretty sure she liked it!
Now it was time for the zoo!! We haven't been to a zoo in years. In fact, Lily was a little apprehensive since she didn't know what to expect. But she LOVED it. We had so much fun. It was a perfect day and the zoo was surprisingly not crowded. Lily is at the age where she was just soaking up information and wanted to learn all about the animals. It was awesome. My favorite part of the whole day was just watching Lily have fun and learn.
Dani waving Hi to the giraffe. She would say hi and bye to all the animals. I think she had a great time too -- especially since she could run around like the crazy person she is.
It was just like on the Jungle Cruise -- they were wiggling their ears and everything!!
Lily really enjoyed the bird avery and having the birds fly around her head.
Dani bending down to talk to a bird. She was saying "Hi birdy" in her Dani language. It was so cute.
Lily was most excited to see the penguins, but the penguin house smelled so it kinda "ruined it" for her.
About the same height as an emperor penguin.
Who know what Dani is doing -- she would have been that kid that climbed into the exhibits if we let her.
Another highlight of my day was the carousel ride --- it was Dani's first time!!
She had so much fun! Every time we went around and saw Chip she would wave and yell "Hi Dada!!" Every. Single. Time. It was SO cute.
Lily got a cool glitter tattoo.
Then the girls got to go play in the play barn area. Which was supposed to be educational and fun, but just creeped me out . . . .
First there was this. Why would anyone turn this???
The there was this lovely display . . . .
At the top it says "Do You Know What Is Made From Animals?" And you lift the little door thing and there are pictures -- Lily opened the one with a can of DOG FOOD!
GLUE!!
I was pretty grossed out. There were hair brushes and footballs for the pig. Bubble gum in the sheep. It was weird.
They had a Texas town set up with a museum, stores, food. It was cute and a nice time to stop for ice cream and shopping!
Lily has been studying rocks at school and has been into them lately, so she totally wanted to buy some rocks at the gift shop. So of course I let her fill a bag. It was fun picking out the best rocks with her.
Ice cream time!
The museum was all about Texas. Lily got all excited since they have been studying Texas at school. She could name the state flowers in the picture. She was so proud.
She would stop and listen to all the stories and facts. She couldn't soak up enough information. It was awesome.
She has the wingspan of a bald eagle . . . .
Lily, a barn owl.
I LOVE big cats. I think they are my favorite.
The info phones in the bat house cracked me up.
We were all waiting in line to ride the train when we noticed someone was shockingly quiet . . .
Poor baby was pooped. So Chip walked her back, while Lily and I took the train.
Dani got about a 30 minute nap. She woke up in time for our last exhibit -- the snakes and bugs!!!
My little snake charmer!
What is Lily always listening to??
Seriously? maybe I have the wrong number.
I really liked the Kimono Dragon.
On the way home we stopped for dinner. I think Dani liked hers. She licked her plate!
It was such a fun day!! We can't wait to go back!!
