Little Sicky

Well it is official, Lily has gotten her first real cold. I suppose I should be ecstatic that she is less than a month away from being 2 and she has never been sick before, but we were on such a streak -- I was hoping she'd hold out until she was like 12 before getting sick! :)

We went back to the doctors this morning since they are open half day on Saturday and she woke up with "cloudy mucus." So I didn't want to wait until Monday to get that checked out. She has been getting worse every day and her cough is so bad at night. The doctor said that the fever she got the other night was probably the start of this viral infection, but since the fever had not returned we should just wait it out. He did give me a prescription for antibiotics just in case it was needed over the weekend, but told me not to fill it until I talked to him again first if I thought we needed it. That is fine with me, I really don't want to have to give her the antibiotics anyway, if I can help it. But the poor thing is so miserable. She was hysterical in the Dr's office -- clawing at the walls trying to find a way out of the room screaming "go bye bye! go bye bye". She wouldn't even let me hold and console her. She was a disaster -- snot and tears everywhere! Then, like magic, they gave her a sucker and she was all better! :)

She even stopped by the tree in the lobby to pose for a picture with her sucker! She kept saying "good. yummy" over and over. This was her first sucker ever -- to go with her first cold! I know a lot of kids her age eat suckers, but they still make me nervous, so I held out. But she really enjoyed this one today!

On the way home we went to get her some food since she has not eaten much in days. I was desperately trying to get her to eat anything, so I offered to get her fries. Which she promised she would eat. I forgot that it was barely 10am, so we settled for hash brown sticks and she ate about half of them! I was trying to take her picture while we were waiting in the drive thru -- the above shot is the "geeze mom, enough with the camera" look.
She played a little when we got home, but then completely lost it and went hysterical. I couldn't tell what she wanted through all the tears and screams. I felt so bad, obviously she was miserable! Finally I determined that she wanted to take a nap. It is an hour early, but it was apparent she needed to go now right away . . . I sure hope she sleeps a lot time this afternoon and that nasty cough doesn't wake her!!
I am now off to wrap more presents!!!!

So sorry to hear that Lily is sick. It's hard to go through and sleep is certainly the best cure - for both of you!
